The International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and the General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (A-Level) are two of the programmes and qualifications offered by the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE). The IGCSE is for students aged 14 to 16, while the A-Level is for students aged 16 to 19. Cambridge international qualifications are recognised by the world’s best universities. Every year, nearly a million Cambridge students from 10,000 schools in 160 countries enter the world’s top universities in the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, etc., with an international education from Cambridge.
The IGCSE and the A-Level offer complete, rigorous and flexible curricula and set clear goals for students, helping them develop an informed curiosity and a lasting passion for learning.
The IGCSE and the A-Level are carefully designed to engage students and give them solid foundations to achieve high levels of academic and personal attainment. These programmes and qualifications reflect the latest educational research and are well supported by teaching and learning resources.
Created by subject experts, they set the global standard for international education.
The IGCSE and the A-Level help develop knowledge and skills in creative thinking, enquiry and problem solving. They encourage students to apply knowledge and understanding to new as well as unfamiliar situations. These programmes and qualifications engage students to qualify for the internationally recognised qualifications, providing a strong platform for students to progress from one stage to the next and giving students a wide range of options in their careers.
Over 500 US universities, including all Ivy League and Ivy Plus universities, and all UK universities, accept the A-Level. This programme helps develop a deep understanding of subjects, as well as independent learning and constructive thinking skills - abilities which universities value highly.
In 2007, Guangdong Country Garden School (CGS) registered to be an authorized CIE centre and introduced the IGCSE in the same year. In 2008, we implemented the A-Level. In 2010, three of our first graduates were admitted into University of Oxford. Since the introduction of CIE, 10 of our graduates have been admitted into University of Oxford, and nearly 100 graduates have been accepted by other world’s top universities such as The London School of Economics and Political Science, Imperial College London, University College London, Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne, The University of Hong Kong, etc.
Two of our graduates have been admitted into the postgraduate programmes of University of Cambridge, as well as six in University of Oxford, including one for a doctor’s degree in Oxford.
